Life is not doing what we like, but liking what we do. We don’t often get to live on out terms. We are not often given much choice about what we to do in life. Most of us are content to swim with the tide, take life as it comes. And then Fate puts those invisible stones in our path and trips us up. And that is when our spirit, our fortitude, our strength and conviction come into play. Some lines from the teen pop sensation Justin Bieber’s song go thus:

See I never thought that I could walk through fire

I never thought that I could take the burn

I never had the strength to take it higher

Until I reached the point of no return

I never thought that I could feel this power

I never thought that I could feel this free

And that is the need of the hour in these trouble-torn times – to feel the power within, in a world weakened by natural disasters, hate and violence. A strong spirit in a weak frame is better than a weak spirit in a strong body. This is what DBS aims at building in her students: strong characters, vibrant personalities, generous spirits and compassionate souls, through a variety of curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The school website affords a glimpse of this. It is the window through which we invite you to take a peek at the multitude of talent, abundant skill, all-round ability and wonderful achievements that have come to spell Don Bosco Siliguri.

I like to wind up by quoting once again from another of Justin Bieber’s songs – Born to be somebody:

There’s a dream in my soul, a fire that’s deep inside me.

There’s a me no one knows, waiting to be set free.

I’m gonna see that day. I can feel it, I can taste it

Change is coming my way.

My humble prayer to all of you is: effect that change and free the ‘me’ that’s in each one of you.

God bless you.
