OUTREACH PROGRAMME
  • 20th October 2019
  • Report by Mrs.Saismita Mukherjee (Teacher)

Around 150 students along with teachers, Fr. Principal, Fr. Bursar of Don Bosco School, Siliguri, visited Saraswatipur an adopted village of the school on 20th October, 2019 for Don Bosco Outreach Programme. It was a wonderful experience for both the students and the teachers as we were warmly welcomed by the villagers who sang and danced as they ushered us to the venue. The students of the free day school run by Don Bosco School, Siliguri, sang a beautiful song welcoming us into their midst, followed by a speech. Later, the student council and the other students distributed 1100 tin sheets worth more than ten lakhs to the poor families. Funds for the tin sheets were raised by conducting Annual School Fete. From the Bosco Fest savings a concrete house was built and the key was handed over to the family. Along with this the certificates of the vocational courses such as Office Management Course and One Year Computer Course which were successfully completed by the young girls of the village were also given out by our students. Some of the students donated clothes and sweets to the children. The two hours spent in the village were really very enthralling as well as an eye- opener to one and all. As we left the village our hearts were filled with contentment of being some help to these underprivileged people. Though its just a drop in the ocean but it was worth it. The smiles on the faces of these deprived people gave us motivation to do more for them in future.
